At last some good news on development in the city!

Just when it seemed like Aberdeen was
destined to miss out on any significant development due to lack of
public funds, comes one welcome bit of news about a project that
has secured Heritage Lottery Fund money, along with local authority
funding and a bequest.
Aberdeen’s Duthie Park is to be renovated and restored to its Victorian glory, with a total funding package of £5.4 million.

The 44 acre park was originally opened in 1883 after the land was bequeathed to the city by Elizabeth Duthie, daughter of a wealthy shipowner and merchant.
In recent years however it has lacked its original Victorian charm, but nevertheless attract half a million visitors each year.
With £2.56 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, £2.67 million from Aberdeen City Council and a bequest from Lorna Russell of £834,000, the Duthie Park will be restored to its former glory.
The scheme will include work throughout the park. But notable elements will include:
It must be hoped that this project will be the start of a more successful era for the City of Aberdeen, in terms of achieving capital support from national funds.

- The reinstatement of a Victorian promenade, which has recently been lost.
- The restoration of the fountain centrepiece for the park.
