Stand by for traffic gridlock in the centre of Aberdeen as the Union Square development opens tomorrow. Thousands of shoppers are expected to descend on the new retail park over the coming days.
Many of us could see the potential for traffic problems when the idea of building over the railhead at Aberdeen Harbour was first mooted. North Esplanade West, Market Street, Guild Street and South College Street are among the most congested roads in the city centre.
This new monster shopping centre is right smack in the middle.
Sores include the Apple Store, Nando’s, H&M, Paperchase, Pandora, Rox, Swatch, Tinderbox, TK Maxx, TM Lewin, Urban Kids, USC , Vero Moda, Zara, ASK, Azendi, Boots, Clarks, Costwold and Cult.
Although there is a 1,700-space car par for the retail development, Police have urged drivers to leave their cars and walk or take public transport to the new shopping centre.
