£30 million harbour development

The news of a £30 million retain hotel, commercial and retail development beside Aberdeen harbour is to be welcomed.

Unveiled in The Press and Journal, the plans would breathe new life into an area that is currently rather down-at-heal. Given that this is close to the station and therefore a significant arrival point for visitors, it doesn’t really project a good (or true) impression of Europe’s Energy Capital.

A more vibrant hotel and modern shopping mall development would.

There is another important function that the proposed new development could well perform.

It would be a good “stepping stone” to help bridge the worrying gulf between the traditional Union Street/Bon Accord/St Nicholas shopping heart of Aberdeen and the new Union Square shopping centre near the station.
