Happy 100th birthday to Aberdeen and District Motor Club
. They are celebrating this Saturday with a dinner dance in the Ardoe House Hotel.
The speaker is former top co-driver and Ford motorsport team boss Stuart Turner
. Local club member Graeme Wight Jnr, pictured at Fintray, went on to win the British championship
It was in 1909 that the intrepid band of motoring types got together and formed the club. Since then it has run continuously, with breaks only for the two world wars.
In the 1960s, the club came to national prominence with its motor races at Crimond and Edzell. It was at Crimond that Scotland's two-times World Champion, Jim Clark
had his first race. Later the club started the long-running hill climbs at Fintray, near Dyce, and the Granite City Rally
– both events reaching British Championship status.
